The AP reports that the last time he ran from the law, Cody Nathaniel Willcoxson led a nine-inmate jail break in Oklahoma.
A decade later, his latest legal run-in ended without violence. But only after a four-hour, 40-mile manhunt Thursday that included an interstate shootout, the shutdown of a Missouri college where he crashed his car and a failed effort to break into a military base.
The 31-year-old was charged with assaulting an officer, resisting arrest and armed criminal action. He’s being held on $1 million bond.
It’s unclear why Willcoxson tried sneaking on to Fort Leonard Wood, where he drove through a security gate. He was chased onto an interstate where authorities say he appeared to be shooting an AK-47 through the window.
Willcoxson had been released from an Oklahoma prison in 2008
