Governor Orders Changes In Joplin

Governor Jay Nixon issued a series of executive orders Thursday to facilitate relief efforts and help the victims of the Joplin tornado.

In another development, the Missouri Bar Association has established a toll-free telephone number for storm victims seeking legal help. That number is 1-800-829-4128

Under one order executive order, insurance companies are barred from raising rates or canceling coverage to Joplin-area residents.

Another order directs the Natonal Guard and Army Corps of Engineers to coordinate and supervise cleanup and removal of storm debris. The Adjutant General is directed to call into active duty the additional personnel and equipment needed.

Under the terms of a third order all fees will be waived for the replacement of state IDs and vehicle ownership documents lost in the Joplin tornado. The list includes driver licenses; nondriver licenses; certificates of vehicle ownership; license plates; and plate registration stickers.

Three locations in Joplin have been established to help jobless victims file for unemployment and get re-employment services. Victims who lost their jobs due to the twister should go to either:
*Missouri Southern State University, 3950 E. Newman Road
*Sam’s Club, I-44 and Rangeline Road
*Missouri Career Center, 8th and Wall Ave. across from Memorial Hall
