Mustangs rally past Joplin and win in 12 innings

The St. Joseph Mustangs rallied from a 6-4 deficit and got a two-out RBI double from Jordan Guida in the 12th inning Tuesday night to win at Joplin, 7-6.

Guida was 0-for-6 before his go-ahead base hit in the 12th inning.

St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 20-4 this season and 16-4 in the MINK League.

The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning and led 4-1 in the third before Joplin scored three runs in the fourth inning and one more in the fifth.

The Outlaws led 6-4 until St. Joseph got a two-out RBI single from Mark Robinette in the seventh and a two-out RBI double from Brock Chaffin in the eighth inning to tie the game.

The Mustangs bullpen was sensational Tuesday as three relievers combined to work 7.1 innings of scoreless baseball.

Robinette had a huge game as he earned the win on the mound by going the final 4.2 innings.  He allowed five hits, no runs, one walk and struck out nine batters.  Robinette also finished 4-for-6 at the plate to lead the Mustangs offense.

Chaffin and Brent Seifert added three hits each, while Seifert scored three runs and Cameron Bentley scored twice.

Cody Cunningham started the game for St. Joseph as he lasted just 4.2 innings and gave up six runs and eight hits.  He didn’t record a strikeout and walked four batters.

The Mustangs close out their four-game road trip Wednesday night as they travel to Chillicothe.  The first pitch is at 7:00 p.m.
