LEAVENWORTH, Kan. (AP) — Police in Leavenworth say they found pipe bombs and a grenade at a home where a man was shot by an officer serving a search warrant for drugs.
Leavenworth Police Chief Pat Kitchens says a preliminary review of the scene showed evidence of a suspected marijuana growing operation.
Police said a 27-year-old man pointed a 9 mm handgun at members of the SWAT and Special Investigations unit when they entered the home around 7 a.m. Tuesday. One officer fired several rounds, wounding the man.
KMBC-TV reports the man was in critical condition Tuesday afternoon at a Kansas City hospital.
The Leavenworth County Bomb Squad was called in to dispose of three pipe bombs and a hand grenade found inside the house.
