Kansas City Chiefs President Mark Donovan announced today that Arrowhead Stadium will host Joplin High School as they take on Raymore-Peculiar on Oct. 21, 2011. All net proceeds from the game will benefit the Joplin Schools Tornado Relief Fund.
The game will be the KSMO62 High School Game of the Week and will be broadcast around the state in conjunction with a telethon to support the school fund. KCTV/KSMO is partnering with other stations in St. Louis, Joplin and other television markets to broadcast the game.
“This game represents the next step in our efforts to support the recovery and rebuildling of Joplin,” said Donovan. “Our hope is that the game will not only raise funds for the schools, but raise awareness about the ongoing needs as the city moves forward.”
The announcement came at a press conference previewing this week’s Governor’s Cup Game between the Chiefs and the St. Louis Rams. Donovan was joined at the press conference by Gov. Jay Nixon, Rams COO Kevin Demoff and representatives from the Raymore-Peculiar R-II and Joplin School Districts.
“KSMO, along with our partners, Hy-Vee and the Urgency Room, are delighted to be bringing high school football games to area viewers this fall, and we are especially proud to be able to feature the Joplin/Ray-Pec game as a part of that schedule,” said KCTV/KSMO General Manager Bobby Totsch. “The statewide event will include a three-hour telethon featuring the people and students of Joplin and it’s our hope that we will provide much-needed visibility and support to them.”
General admission tickets for the game, which has a 7 p.m. kickoff, are available beginning Wednesday, Aug. 24, for $15, with all net proceeds benefitting the Joplin Recovery Fund. Student tickets, which can be purchased through the participating high schools, are $5. Tickets can be ordered by calling Joplin High School at 417.625.5242 or Raymore-Peculiar High School at 816.892.1411, at the Arrowhead Stadium Box Office, or through Ticketmaster at 800.745.3000 and ticketmaster.com. Day-of-game adult and student tickets will be available at the Arrowhead Stadium Box Office. Parking for this special event will be $15.
All net proceeds including ticketing and parking will benefit the Joplin Schools Tornado Relief Fund. The Joplin Schools Tornado Relief fund will be used to remove the obstacles that stand in the way of teachers being able to teach and children being able to learn by providing them the basic educational materials and support they need. This could include, but is not limited to, things such as food, clothing, shelter, after school care, school supplies, classroom materials and student transportation to and from school-related events.
