Four Die On State Waterways Over Holiday Weekend

The Missouri water patrol says four people died on state waterways during the Labor Day weekend. Two people died on Saturday in a three-boat collision on the Osage River. Authorities also say a Kansas man drowned at Smithville Lake on Sunday, and the body of a 93-year-old man was found yesterday in the Lake of the Ozarks.

A report from the water patrol says two boats were anchored in mid channel along the Osage River near the Bonnots Mill Access when a third boat crashed into, and over them late Saturday night. The victims are identified as 33-year-old Curtis Libbert of Tebetts, and 46-year-old Alvin Blackford of Russellville, Missouri.

According to official reports, Julio Mendoza, 22, of Kansas City, Kansas, was swimming at the Camp Branch Swim Beach Cove Sunday morning. He was swimming across the cove, began to struggle, and went under. He did not resurface.

Officials say 93-year-old Alton Mos of Kansas City, Missouri was last seen fishing on his dock on the Lake of the Ozarks Saturday afternoon. A short time later, his hat was found floating near the dock, and all his fishing equipment and personal items were still on the dock. A dive team recovered his body Sunday.
