Two candidates for Missouri Lieutenant Governor emerged this week.
Former Missouri State Auditor Susan Montee has filed the paperwork with the Missouri Ethics Commission to allow her to raise money for a campaign for the job being vacated by Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder. Kinder is expected to run for governor. Montee is a Democrat from St Joseph, and previously held the job of Buchanan County Auditor and a seat on the St Joseph City Council. In 2010, Montee was defeated by Republican Thomas Schweich.
Republican Cynthia Davis this week declared her candidacy for the office. In her announcement, Davis said government is broken, that it “no longer works for the people, but only for the big money special interests.” The 19th District State Representative called this year’s special session of the General Assembly “a circus.”
The race for the GOP nomination will be a tough one for Davis. House Speaker Stephen Tilley has already raised about one million dollars for his campaign for Lieutenant Governor, according to a report to the Missouri Ethics Commission.
