The former Prosecuting Attorney in Livingston County will keep his law license, but will be on probation for three years, for a series of violations of the Missouri Rules of Professional Conduct.
Michael Koenig essentially agreed with the findings of the Chief Disciplinary Counsel, that he allowed his private law practice to lapse as he tackled a backlog in the part-time Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
Court documents indicate that during the period in question, Koenig wrestled with physical and mental-health issues, as well as a crumbling marriage. The allegations centered on the improper or untimely filing of documents, mishandling of some legal fees, and failing to provide information to clients of his private practice during 2008 and 2009.
The Missouri Supreme Court on Tuesday approved an order suspending Koenig’s law license, but staying the suspension and placing him on probation for three years.
