Former Independence pastor David Love has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and was sentenced to life in prison for the death of businessman Randy Stone.

Jackson County Prosecuting Attorney Jean Peters Baker called it a “surprise twist” in the already twisted case. Love delivered the eulogy at Stone’s funeral.

Stone’s wife Theresa reportedly had an affair with the pastor, and is charged with conspiracy to commit murder.

Love was pastor at New Hope Baptist church in Independence. He resigned shortly after Stone’s death in March, 2010. Love was extradited from South Carolina to face charges in the case, and had been scheduled for trial early next year.
