A three-alarm fire at an apartment complex in southeast Kansas City early Saturday forced 18 people from their homes.
Officials say one of the residents at 8304 Hillcrest Drive spotted the fire at about 3am and went door-to-door notifying people in 12 apartments. They all got out safely with no injuries reported.
The American Red Cross is helping the victims with temporary housing, along with food, clothing, and personal supplies.
Fire investigators believe the blaze was accidental, but they have not yet determined the cause.
