READING, Kan. (AP) – Businesses are beginning to reopen in a tornado- ravaged southeast Kansas town.
An EF-3 tornado May 21st hit the small Lyon County town of Reading and killed one person.
The twister also demolished 54 of the town’s 101 homes and nearly all its businesses.
Now the town is getting back its bank, café and grain elevator.
A full-service branch of Citizens State Bank and Trust in Woodbine will start doing business on December 5th.
Reta Jackson hopes she can start serving meals out of The Miracle Cafe in early December.
Plus, the owner of Reading Grain and Lumber Incorporated expects to maintain consistent hours at the grain elevator by the end of the year. The elevator was deemed a total loss after the tornado.
