Where will you watch the Chiefs/Broncos season-ending contest this weekend? Omaha? Topeka?
You might not be able to watch it in St Joseph and other cities with Suddenlink Cable. According to the KCTV/KSMO’s Web site, Suddenlink has until midnight December 31 to reach an agreement to carry the two stations. Absent an agreement, Suddenlink cannot legally carry KCTV or KSMO.
“Please know that we have tried very hard to reach an agreement,” the stations said in an online statement. They list the NFL, March Madness, 60 Minutes, NCIS, and CSI as possible broadcast casualties.
On Thursday, Suddenlink officials responded, claiming KCTV’s owner Meredith Corporation is demanding a 65% increase in what Suddenlink pays to carry four Meredith stations. Click here for more.
Our radio coverage of the game will not be affected. You can tune in the game on Q Country 92.7 FM and 680 KFEQ AM. The pre-game show starts at 2 p.m. Central Time Sunday. The kickoff is scheduled at 3:15 p.m.
Cities served by Suddenlink and affected by this include Paola in Kansas, and in Missouri, St Joe, Brookfield, Lexington, Maryville, and Trenton.
The stations say they will continue to negotiate with Suddenlink, but they were preparing viewers for the worst case.
“Unfortunately, we do not know if, or when, we will reach an agreement. In the meantime, we hope you will continue supporting local television and watch us through alternative means.”
You can watch the stations for free over the air with an antenna, or you may choose to subscribe to DirecTV (1-800-DIRECTV) or Dish Network (1-888-825-2557), both of which carry KCTV5 and KSMO and all of the local television stations in the market.
