Clubhouse At Liberty Hills Country Club Destroyed By Fire

There’s no word yet on what caused a huge fire that destroyed the clubhouse at Liberty Hills Country Club Friday night, but the Missouri Fire Marshall’s Office have secured the area as a crime scene.

Thirty-nine firefighters from eight departments battled the blaze which broke out some time before 6 p.m. Friday. Authorities are investigating the cause and have not placed an estimate on the damage.

The clubhouse was a total loss.

One firefighter was treated for smoke inhalation during the effort to put out the fire. There were no other injuries.

Authorities say strong winds hampered the effort, and a broken fire hydrant forced crews to use tankers to truck water to the site of the fire, at 19808 Route H in Clay County.

First responders were dispatched at 5:43 p.m., prompted by smoke and water-flow alarms. The building has been mostly idle since Christmas.

An interior attack on the suspected origin of the fire in the basement was called off after high wind gusts fanned the flames.
