Missouri Lawmakers Hope For Exemption From No Child Left Behind

JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (AP) – Missouri education officials are planning to discuss their request to be excused from parts of the
federal No Child Left Behind Law.

The federal government is allowing states to be exempted from some of the laws’ requirements. On Thursday, President Obama announced approval of requests from ten states for exemptions.

The state Board of Education plans to discuss the matter Feb. 21.

The Department of Elementary and Secondary Education has posted its current proposal to its website at www.dese.mo.gov. Officials expect at least one more draft to be developed before the state Board of Education meeting later this month.
