Missouri Lieutenant Governor Peter Kinder is giving up his official state automobile.
In a news release, Kinder said he hopes the state can sell the car and use the money to boost revenue.
Bill Kenney, Kinder’s chief of staff, says the lieutenant governor has not used the Grand Marquis for years, and when the insurance came due, he decided to return it.
Kinder said giving back his taxpayer-owned ride is part of an effort to keep costs down in his office. Since 2009, Kinder says, he has cut his office budget nearly 10 percent.
Kinder faces a primary reelection challenge from Northwest Missouri State Sen. Brad Lager, to hold onto his seat.
