(VIDEO) At least Six Dead In Harrisburg, Illinois (correct) As Storm System Rampages East

More death and destruction are reported in the wake of a severe storm system that caused at least three deaths and dozens of injuries in Kansas and Missouri early Wednesday. The death toll nationwide is at least nine.

Authorities in Harrisburg, Illinois now say at least six people were killed there.

In Missouri, one person was killed in a trailer park in the town of Buffalo.

Two more fatalities were reported in the Cassville and Puxico areas.

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon was expected to visit Branson and Cassville Wednesday afternoon. Nixon response lauded efforts so far.

“As chief executive of the state, when you see your people at the most difficult times, when they’ve lost their house or there has been damage and you see people come together the way they do in this state, it’s just incredibly impressive,” Nixon said.

Power outages have been a factor as well. Utilities in the Branson area reported more than 15,000 customers without power. That number already has been reduced but authorities say it could be days before repairs are finished.

The Associated Press at one point reported ten dead in Harrisburg, Illinois at mid-morning. The Illinois Emergency Management Agency earlier told the AP that 10 were dead, but an agency spokeswoman later said that was incorrect.

Other news agencies and official reports indicate at least six were killed there. At least 100 others are being treated for injuries hospitals in and around the small town 100 miles southeast of St. Louis.
