Pre-Trial Hearing Set For “Fast Eddie”

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. (AP) – A man suspected of stealing about $1.5 million in Britain in 1993 has an upcoming court appearance in southwestern Missouri on unrelated U.S. charges.

Fifty-six-year-old Edward Maher, aka “Fast Eddie,” is scheduled for a pretrial conference May 16.

Prosecutors charged Maher with aggravated identity theft, document fraud and firearms violations. He pleaded not guilty last month in U.S. District Court in Springfield.

Maher was wanted in England in connection with the 1993 theft of British currency from an armored van.

He has been in federal custody in Greene County since his arrest Feb. 8 in Ozark, where authorities said he was living under his brother’s name. Prosecutors accused Maher of using a Social Security card and other identification that was not issued to him and of illegally possessing four firearms.
