JOPLIN, Mo. (AP) — Fans of Pittsburg State University who live in Missouri will soon be able to show their school spirit on their cars.
The state of Missouri plans to begin issuing specialized Pittsburg State license plates within the next three months.
It will be the first Kansas-based university to have its own plate in Missouri.
The Joplin Globe reports (http://bit.ly/IEMhIH) the plates will switch the normal blue-sky color of the standard Missouri plate for a red-and-yellow Gorilla logo. The plates also will show “Pittsburg State University” in red.
Johnna Schremmer, director of alumni relations for Pittsburg State, says the university has about 10,000 alumni living in Missouri. About 3,500 of them live in the Joplin area.
