ST. LOUIS (AP) — A barge worker is dead after trying to rescue stranded boaters in the middle of the Mississippi River near downtown St. Louis.
A boat with three adults and two children ran out of gas Tuesday near the Poplar Street Bridge and began taking on water. Two workers from a barge tried to help, but their boat capsized.
Another barge tow pulled all seven people from the water. One of the barge workers was critically injured and later died at a hospital.
The victim’s name has not been released.
