A couple from Illinois is being held in Lawrence, Kansas after police discovered two of their children bound and blindfolded. Authorities arrested the couple in a Walmart parking lot.
A customer called police after she noticed what appeared to be a child, whose hands were bound, standing outside a Chevy Suburban with no plates.The child also was blindfolded.
Police surrounded the vehicle and arrested a 52-year-old man. Police say they had to use a Taser after the man resisted arrest.
He’s being held without bond pending formal criminal charges. A woman was also taken into custody.
At least five kids were in the vehicle. Two of them were bound and blindfolded. State authorities took all five kids into protective custody.
Police think the family members were traveling from Illinois to Arizona when they experienced car trouble on I-70. They had apparently been parked in the Walmart parking lot since Monday evening.
