The St. Joseph Mustangs tied a franchise record with 21 runs on Wednesday night as St. Joe’s summer college baseball team shut out the Kansas City Monarchs, 21-0, at Phil Welch Stadium.
The Mustangs jumped on Kansas City early with 10 runs in the first innings as the first 10 batters for St. Joseph reached base and they all scored.
Jordan Guida hit a two-run home run and a drove in a run with a double in the first innings, while Kyle Simpson had three RBI in the opening frame.
St. Joe added one run in the second and scored seven runs in the third to make it 18-0 after three innings.
Simpson and Will Mulligan had three hits and five RBI each, while Tim Caputo went 4-for-6 with three runs and three RBI. Shane Segovia added four hits and four runs scored.
Staten Jones (2-0) earned the win as he went five innings and allowed just three hits while striking out seven.
The Mustangs improve to 11-6 this season and they get back into MINK League play Thursday. St. Joseph entertains Ozark at 7:00 p.m. Thursday and you can listen to the game on ESPN 1550 AM.
