Mustangs beat Omaha to clinch MINK League North title

The St. Joseph Mustangs won their third consecutive game Wednesday night as they defeated Omaha inside Phil Welch Stadium, 7-4.

With the win, St. Joe’s summer college baseball team clinched the MINK League North Division championship and guaranteed them a spot in the NBC World Series in Wichita.

It’s the second straight MINK League North title and it’ll be the Mustangs’ third straight trip to the NBC World Series.

Missouri Western’s Kyle Simpson led St. Joseph as he went 3-for-5 with four RBI and Patrick Burkhart had two hits, scored twice and he drove in two runs.

Adam Maddox went 7.1 innings to improve to 3-0 on the mound.  He allowed seven hits and two earned runs.

Chris Green recorded the final three outs of the game for his fifth save of the season.

St. Joseph scored single runs in the first two innings and added another in the fourth before Omaha responded with two in the top of the sixth inning.

The Mustangs answered with two in the bottom of the sixth before Omaha scored two again in the eighth to make it 5-4.

Simpson then came through with a two-out, two-RBI single to put St. Joe back up by three runs.

The Mustangs are back on the road Thursday as they play a doubleheader at Ozark.  The first pitch of game one is at 5:00 p.m. and you can listen live on ESPN 1550 AM.
