A judge has ordered an immigration services company out of business in the state of Kansas.
Attorney General Derek Schmidt says he was investigating the Wyandotte County based firm for alleged violations of the Kansas Consumer Protection Act.
But Schmidt says the company, Centro Migratorio, repeatedly failed to obey subpoenas issued to the business.
In a court order issued Friday, Wyandotte County District Judge Judge David W. Boal banned the company, also known as Peoples Centro Migratorio, from doing business in the state. The order bans the firm from “advertising, soliciting, performing, accepting payments for, supervising or in any manner conducting business in the State of Kansas.”
Schmidt says the company formerly offered immigration and translation services. He says his office was investigating allegations of the unauthorized practice of law, and other deceptive practices. The injunction will remain in place until the company substantially complies with the subpoenas issued.
“Companies that operate in the state of Kansas must follow all the consumer protection laws of our state,” Schmidt said. “Our office will not allow companies that engage in misleading or illegal activity to continue business practices.”
