Police say a train ran over a man in Johnson County, Kansas early Wednesday.
Merriam police say the train conductor saw the man lying on the tracks but wasn’t able to stop the train before striking him.
Drivers were diverted near the scene of the man’s death, along a busy Johnson County street.
There were about 65 cars, most of them empty, on the Burlington Northern train. The trian had just passed Johnson Drive, when the engineer noticed a man laying on the tracks. The engineer tried to stop the train before striking the man, but couldn’t.
The man was dead at the scene. Merriam police have not yet identified the man, and are asking for the public’s assistance to report to them anyone who might be missing.
