The St. Joseph Mustangs stayed unbeaten at the NBC World Series in Wichita with an 8-2 victory over the Tulsa Braves Tuesday night.
St. Joe’s summer college baseball team improves to 2-0 in Wichita as they led wire-to-wire Tuesday.
The Mustangs jumped out to a 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning as Saulyer Saxon led off with a double, Kyle Simpson singled and Mark Robinette hit a two-run triple to right center.
Robinette then scored on a Tanner Lubach ground out.
Tulsa got one run back in the bottom of the first but that’s as close as they’d get.
St. Joe added two runs in the third, one in the seventh and two more runs in the ninth inning.
Saxon, Simpson and Robinette scored all eight runs for St. Joseph and combined for nine of the teams ten hits.
Robinette went 4-for-4 with three RBI and three runs scored. Simpson finished 3-for-5 with three runs and Saxon had two hits and two runs scored.
Mustangs’ starter Aaron Baker improved to 6-2 as he went eight innings and allowed just two runs on five hits. He struck out three and didn’t walk a batter.
St. Joe improves to 36-19 and they’re off until Saturday when they play either Newton (KS) or Dodge City (KS) at a time to be determined in the winner’s bracket quarterfinal. The game will be broadcast live on ESPN 1550 AM.
