Remington Nature Center Adds Aviary

The Remington Nature Center has added an aviary with live birds, thanks to a donation from Living Community of St. Joseph. These photographs were culled with permission from the RNC’s Facebook page.

Living Community donated a 6 X 8 foot aviary to the RNC several weeks ago. The community no longer had a use for it, but wanted to keep the item local.

Andrea George, the manager of the RNC, said in a news release the aviary helps fill a gap pointed out in comments by visitors to the center.

“One of the comments we often receive is the need for more live animals at the RNC. This donation saved us thousands of dollars, and now we’re able to showcase live birds at our facility,” said Andrea George, manager of the RNC.

“It’s a living example of how birds behave.”

The aviary houses 13 birds, including an orange weaver, two diamond doves, and five pairs of finches. In addition to the new bird exhibit, the RNC has a 7,000 gallon of Missouri fish and an observation beehive.

The Remington Nature Center is open seven days a week, including many holidays such as Labor Day. Admission is $3 or under, per person.
