Emporia State’s Tyler Eckenrode, Central Missouri’s Latavius Davis and Washburn’s Devon Conners were named the MIAA Athlete of the Week as voted on by a three member SID panel.
Offensive Athlete of the Week
Tyler Eckenrode, QB, Emporia State
Eckenrode has helped lead Emporia State to a 3-0 record for the first in five years as they picked up a 42-14 win over Central Oklahoma. He threw for over 300 yards for the third straight game going 22 of 39 for 310 yards and four touchdowns. He added 57 rushing yards on 13 carries also scoring a touchdown. He now has 1,185 yards of total offense on the season and has moved into third in career total offense at ESU with 5,905 yards. The 6-0 senior quarterback is a native of Houston, Texas where he competed at The Woodlands High School.
Defensive Athlete of the Week
Latavius Davis, DE, Central Missouri
Davis had nine total tackles, 4.5 tackles for a loss setting Lindenwood back 25 yards, three sacks and three forced fumbles as UCM earned a 35-28 victory. His first sack and forced fumble went for 20 yards and drove the Lions out of Mule territory. He also had a pass break-up on the drive from his defensive end position. His second sack and forced fumble of the night set up UCM at the LWU 12 yard line in the second quarter. His final sack and forced fumble drove LWU back to their own 28 yard line late in the game and forced a third and long that would result in a turnover sealing the UCM win. The 6-3 senior defensive end is a native of Blakley, Ga. where he competed at Early County High School before transferring to UCM from East Central Mississippi Community College.
Special Teams Athlete of the Week
Devon Connors, DB, Washburn
He blocked a punt and returned it for a touchdown to give Washburn a 14-10 lead with 14:54 to play in the first half as they pulled out a 24-20 victory over Northeastern State. He also had five solo tackles in the game adding a pass break-up and an interception to seal the victory for the Ichabods. The 5-10 junior defensive back is a native of Aurora, Colo. where he competed at Overland High School.
