Hazmat Team Responds to Fuel Leak in Saint Joseph

The regional hazmat team was called out Tuesday morning when a tractor-trailer leaked diesel fuel at International Paper in Saint Joseph. Fire officials say the truck’s fuel tank ripped when the vehicle got high-centered on a railroad crossing shortly before one am.

Company officials quickly built a dam to contain the fuel until the Region H hazmat team took over the scene on Easton Road. Officials estimate 100 to 120 gallons of diesel fuel leaked.
