Platte County Official Sentenced For Misuse Of Public Information

The former president of the Northland Regional Ambulance District will serve 15 days in jail for his guilty plea to charges stemming from an insider land deal.

Kevin Rawlings of Dearborn was sentenced Thursday for his guilty plea to one misdemeanor count of misuse of official information by a public servant.

The charges stem from the sale of a tract of land to the ambulance district.

Rawlings purchased a piece of property along I-29 near Camden Point that he knew was ideal for a future ambulance facility. He then sold a portion of the parcel to the district.

Authorities say he paid $130 thousand for the entire tract, and then sold part of it to the district for $175 thousand.

Platte County Circuit Judge Dennis Carl Eckold suspended the sentence but ordered Rawlings to serve 15 days in jail and one year probation. The judge ordered Rawlings to pay restitution of $125 thousand to the district within 30 days. He also ordered the defendant to repay the prosecutor’s office $650 for the cost of a land appraisal.
