St Joseph Police are investigating a homicide that occurred Saturday night, and they’re hoping to get some help from the public.
Commander Jim Connors of the St Joseph Police Department tells us the victim, 57-year-old Clinton Justice, was found dead at his apartment at 139 Park Lane by his daughter at about 7 p.m. Saturday.
Connors says the daughter had to force entry into the apartment, and found Justice lying on the floor.
“We started a homicide investigation at that point,” Connors said. “We spent the rest of the night and the morning hours doing forensic recovery, and interviewing other people in the apartment complex, and friends and acquaintances that we could locate.”
Connors said on Sunday arrangements were made for an autopsy in Kansas City. Preliminary results from that post-mortem examination should be available early this week. A final report will take several weeks.
Investigators are not far enough along in the investigation that they have any sense of what caused the killing. Connors say they have not yet determined a motive. Detectives are trying to establish a timeline of Mr Justice’s activities prior to Saturday evening.
“We have many areas where we don’t know where he was or who he was with,” Connors said, “and so we are asking people that may have known him to give us a call, or call the TIPS hotline, and see if they can help provide us with some information to follow up in this investigation.”
“We are looking for people that could tell us about Mr Justices activities, particularly from Thursday the 6th through Saturday the 8th, if they know people that he was with or places where he was, so we can try and establish some kind of timeline.”
If you can help, call Detective Greg Lewis at 271-5334 and leave a message, or call the TIPS hotline at 238-TIPS.
