Several people were evacuated from apartments in a house near Jules & 19th Street Monday morning. Fire crews and evacuees battled cold temperatures and wind chills near zero.
The Red Cross was sent to help out several residents evacuated from apartments in the structure. Executive Director Kevin Kirby of the Midland Empire Chapter tells us they are giving assistance to one family of two adults.
It was not immediately clear if the sole occupant of the other upstairs apartment would seek assistance.
St Joseph Police blocked traffic on 19th at Faraon, and at Jules and 19th.
The fire caused extensive damage to the upstairs apartment at 1817-1819 Jules Street. There was no immediate word on the cause of the blaze.
