Buchanan County says it can’t afford to take part in a FEMA flood buyout program. County Emergency Management Director Bill Brinton says homeowners of seven properties are interested in a buyout, with a total pricetag of just under $348,000.
The county’s share would range from $50,000 to $90,000, which the Commissioners say is money the county does not have. Brinton says homeowners still have the option of rebuilding or selling their properties.
