For the first time in the history of the 139th Airlift Wing, a member will receive a Purple Heart commendation for injuries suffered in combat.
Staff Sergeant Troy Green of Cameron will be so honored Tuesday during a ceremony at the wing headquarters at Rosecrans Memorial Airport.

While deployed, officials say he provided valuable training to deploying troops in the area of weapons manipulations, combat reloads and small unit tactics. While in country he served as Mission Security Officer and gunner on his missions.
On April 15, 2012, Green was involved in the attack on Forward Operating Base Finley Shields, in which a he was knocked unconscious and received concussion by the explosion of a VBIED approximately 25 meters from his barracks. Green was able to move to the ADT headquarters, where he provided fire direction for responding units and close protection for ADT command staff.
Green, a member of the 139th Security Forces Squadron, was awarded two Army Commendation medals for his actions during the battle, the Army Combat Action Badge and was awarded the Purple Heart for injuries sustained during the attack.
