Sales Tax For Highways And Bridges Considered

MODOT smallLawmakers in Jefferson City are considering a statewide sales tax to raise money for Missouri highways and bridges.

House Joint Resolution No. 23 and Senate Joint Resolution No. 16 would place the question on the November 2014 ballot.

Rep. Dave Hinson, who sponsored the House measure, says the sales tax would raise about $800 million a year for MODOT.

The St Clair Republican says that would generate about $8 billion over ten years, to be placed in special account, and MODOT would decide how to spend it.
