Rte 45 at 45 SpurTwo people were injured when their car was hit by a train in Platte County Thursday.

Sheriff’s investigators say the vehicle apparently went around the barricades at the tracks and then got stuck in the wet snow.

The accident happened shortly after 11am in the area of 45 Highway and 45 Spur north of Farley, Missouri.

Public Information Officer Captain Erik Holland says in a news release the roadways in the area were extremely treacherous.  The Platte County Public Works Department responded to clear a path for the ambulances to get into and out of the scene of the accident.

The two occupants of the car suffered head injuries and were transported to area hospitals by ground ambulance.  Official word on their conditions was not available, but one of the two victims was believed to have suffered critical injuries.  Their names have not yet been released.

Presiding Commissioner Jason Brown on Thursday declared a state of emergency for Platte County, due to the current winter storm.

Commissioner Brown states that “first responders and road crews are working 24 hour operations that will continue until the winter storm event is over.  I urge citizens to only travel if necessary and to use caution as conditions are extremely hazardous and will continue to be so until this storm is over.”
