Missouri Western’s offense stays hot with 10-3 victory over SBU

riggertMissouriWesternThe Missouri Western baseball team continued to swing the bats well collecting 12 hits in a 10-3 victory in a non-conference match-up with Southwest Baptist on Monday evening.

The Bearcats quickly jumped ahead of the Griffons 1-0 in the top half of the first. Ross Wolfe doubled to left center, followed by a walk by Drew Miller. Spencer Blacksher then hit an RBI single up the middle giving the Bearcats the 1-0 lead.

The Griffons responded in their half of the first as Michael Schulze led off with a double, Kyle Simpson singled up the middle scoring Schulze and then Nate Ramler hit his second homer of the season giving MWSU the 3-1 lead. The final run of the inning came on a wild pitch scoring Spencer Shockley.

The game remained 4-1 until the top of the sixth when SBU’s Aaron Anderson hit an RBI doulbe cutting the MWSU lead to 4-2. In the bottom of the sixth the Griffons capitalized on two Bearcat errors to score three runs. Schulze had a two RBI double while Ramler scored Schulze on a ground out to shortstop. MWSU led 7-2 after six.

In the seventh the Griffons got three extra base hits which included a homer by Grant Fink leading off the inning. Schulze and Bubba Dotson both had RBI doubles giving MWSU the 10-2 lead fter seven. The Bearcats scored one in the 9th but fell for the second time this season.

Oliver Kadey picked up his first victory ove the season going 5.2 innings giving up seven hits and two earned runs. Tyler Riddle and Mason Queen closed out the rest of the game giving up just one hit.

Schulze finished the game going 3-for-4 with three runs scored and three RBI. Fink and Dotson had three and two hits respectively.

Kyle Jochems led the way for the Bearcats with two hits.

MWSU will be back in action on Tuesday, March 5 when they take on Southwest Baptist in another non-conference match-up. Opening pitch is set for 5:30 p.m. in Springfield, Missouri.
