Joseph V. “Joe” Simpson, 92, Gower, Missouri died Sunday, March 3, 2013 at a healthcare facility in St. Joseph, Missouri.
He was born October 6, 1920 to William and Lydia Simpson in Parkville, Missouri.
Joe married Betty Waterman on September 14, 1947. She survives of the home.
He was a member of First Christian Church of Plattsburg, Missouri and Farm Bureau.
Joe was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers; three sisters; and one grandchild.
Survivors: wife, Gower, Missouri; sons, Wayne Simpson (Judy), Mt. Washington, Kentucky, and Vernon Simpson, St. Joseph, Missouri; four grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Services: 1:00 P.M. Friday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Thursday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Nina Lee Powell, 68, Cameron, Missouri died Wednesday, March 7, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center after a brief battle with cancer.
She was born April 19, 1944 to Dudley W. and Gertrude M. (La Flam) Cavey in St. Joseph, Missouri.
Nina married Charles Edward “Ed” Powell on June 11, 1966. He survives of the home.
Nina graduated from Central High School in St. Joseph, Missouri, St. Joseph Junior College, and Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg. She taught Kindergarten for twenty-eight years, with twenty-five of those years at Parkview Elementary School in Cameron, Missouri. She also taught in Lenox, Iowa and Weston, Missouri. Following her retirement from teaching, Nina worked at JB-LB Insurance for thirteen years.
Nina delighted in spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She was a member of the Missouri State Teachers Association and the secretary of the Community of Christ church.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
Her survivors are her husband; daughter, Jennifer Krause (Matt) of Jefferson City; son, Mark Powell of New York City; and grandchildren, Ted and Mae Krause.
Nina wished to share thanks for the friendship of all those who knew and cared about her.
Visitation will be at the Community of Christ Church on Tuesday, March 12 from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. No funeral service is planned.
