Tobin, John webJohn Francis Tobin, 84, born Oct 8, 1928, died Tuesday March 12, 2013. He had been living at home in Maryville until he moved to the Living Community in St. Joseph, MO in January.

John married Carlotta Hantze on Oct 13, 1951. John farmed all his life at Burlington Junction, MO. He owned and operated the 460 acre home farm. He retired in 1999 and they moved to Maryville. A member of St. Gregory Barbarigo Parish, John had been a member of St. Benedict’s Parish in Burlington Junction for many years. He was very active in his community, including Burlington Jct. Kiwanis Club, Nodaway County Extension Council, 4-H, scouts, and girls’ softball coach. John was a member of the Knights of Columbus and was a past Grand Knight and he was past Chairman of the Nodaway County Pork Producers Association. He volunteered for many years on the planning committee for the Tobin Golf Tournament, which contributed funds to St. Francis Hospital in Maryville.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Carlotta, in 2006, his parents, Frank and Nora (Kelly) Tobin, and two infant brothers, Kieran and Terrance.

Survivors include his children: Jana Motes, Olathe, KS, Kieran (Jenny) Tobin, Corpus Christi, TX, Marli Tobin, Chicago, IL, Susan Tobin, San Francisco, CA, Mark (Rachel) Tobin, Atlanta, GA, and Paul (Linda) Tobin, Maryville, MO; seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Other survivors include his brothers and sister: Father Pat Tobin, Kelly (Irene) Tobin, Maurice (Joan) Tobin, Mary Ellen (Geary+) Mahr, and Father Chuck Tobin.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am, Friday, March 15, 2013, at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church, Maryville, with burial in St. Patrick’s Cemetery, Maryville. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, March 14, 2013, with Rosary at 7 p.m. at St. Gregory Barbarigo Catholic Church.

In lieu of flowers, memorials made in John’s name to St. Gregory’s School would be appreciated.

Arrangements are under the direction of Price Funeral Home, Maryville.
