August C. “Augie” Young, 96, Savannah, Missouri died Thursday, March 14, 2013 at his home. He was born June 1, 1916 to Chris and Lydia Young in Karval, Colorado. August married H. Marcella Hopkins on September 24, 1938. They were married for seventy-four years. She preceded him in death on November 29, 2012. He was a member of Savannah First Christian Church, a lifetime member of Elks Club in Falls City, Nebraska, Lions club, Past President & Zone Chairman, the Rider’s Club of Mound City, and Fillmore Lincoln Lodge #138 A.F. & A.M. and he enjoyed playing golf. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife; son, Roscoe Young; seven sisters, and two brothers. Survivors: son, Lavelle Young (Doti), Savannah, Missouri; daughter, Gayneita Shaw (Eldon), El Paso, Texas; ten grandchildren; twenty great-grandchildren; eleven great-great-grandchildren; brother, Carl Young (Betty); and numerous nieces and nephews. Services: 3:00 P.M. Monday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Interment Memorial Park Cemetery. Noble, Mary Kathleen. obitphotoM. Kathleen Noble

1920-2013

Mary Kathleen Noble died Thursday, March 14, 2013, at her home in Weatherby, Missouri. She was born October 6, 1920 in Gentry County. Katie graduated from Albany High School, then married Franklin Maurice Gibbany in 1939. They made their home and raised their two daughters, Joan and Anita in the Albany area, moving to St. Joseph when he died in 1971. She then married Donald Rex Noble in 1982. They moved to Oklahoma then to Arkansas, moving back to Weatherby, Missouri in 1994. Don died in 1998 and she returned to St. Joseph, Missouri in 2000. Katie started working in homes at the age of fourteen doing general housework and babysitting. She was a waitress at Rheuben Ballard and Frosty’s Café, and later both at the Merchants and New Albany Hotels. She also worked as a clerk at Hardin’s Drug and The Supply Grocery store. First out of high school she worked in the office in the courthouse selling Motor Vehicle licenses, and typed for Old American Insurance. She was a self-taught farmer where she took in laundry, raised and dressed chickens that were delivered to homes and Café’s. They lived in living quarters of Dr. Rose Hospital doing the cooking and cleaning for the hospital. Katie helped milk the cows, wash and bottle and deliver the milk to residences at the Madden dairy. She was a lifelong Christian and a member of the Dorsey Christian Church. She joined the hospital auxiliary doing volunteer work at the Gentry County Hospital after it was built in 1958, later going on the pay roll and working as a nurse’s aide and selling AVON on the side plus traveling to surrounding towns and sampling Pepsi Cola for the Pepsi Company on the weekends. The last two years at the hospital she was not on their payroll as she did special duty and was paid by the patients families. She weighted grain for the government at the M.F.A. for two years, sewed caps at Stanberry at the cap factory for 2 ½ years, and owned and operated two Café’s, one on highway 169 at the Mobil Service station, and the other just off the square in the rear of the Rigney Theatre (Flamingo). For a short length of time she was a bookkeeper at the truck stop in Elwood, Kansas, and then went to Sherwood Medical until she got on at the State Hospital, where she worked for the next ten years. She and Don owned and operated a small Convenient and Feed Store in Rose, Oklahoma, owned and operated a Gift Shoppe on Highway 65 in Harrison, Arkansas. She always wanted to be a country song singer, but never learned to play any kind of an instrument or to carry a tune. Her family would like it known that she composed this obituary herself. She was preceded in death by a brother, Cleo Edgar Myers; parents; a grandson, Chris Caraway; and a sister, Betty Thompson. Survivors: two daughters, Mary Joan Lynch (Lloyd), Savannah, Missouri, and Anita Margaret Caraway, Weatherby, Missouri; Rick Caraway, St. Joseph, Missouri; step-son, Rob Noble, Albany, Missouri; sister, Gertrude Steele, St. Joseph; four grandchildren: Sue, Betsy, Lisa, and Clint (Susan); two step-grandchildren, Nathan and Meagan Noble; ten great-grandchildren: Curt, Jackie, Frankie, Lindsey, Ryan, Corie, Kelsi, Kaden, Kylie and Kamrie ; great-great-grandchildren, Brett, Zach, Jackson, Maddie, and Olivia; and beloved nieces and nephews. Katie wished all of her friends and family to meet at her home for a Celebration of Life Saturday, March 23, 2013 from 2:00-4:00 P.M. The family suggests memorial contributions to Asera Care Hospice. Sharon E. Waggoner, MD, 91, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, March 15, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born October 23, 1921 to Everett and Reva Dolly (Campbell) Waggoner in Dairyland, Wisconsin. He married Marion Francis Kantz in 1941. She survives of the home. Dr. Waggoner served in the Medical Corps, was in Officer Candidate School at the Chemical Warfare Center and United States Army Air Corps, during World War II. He served in the European Theatre and flew 71 missions over Italy, Germany and the Baltic’s. He also served time on a Court Martial Board. Sharon finished as a major after active duty and rose to the rank of Lt. Col. in the Army Air Corps until 1969. He graduated from Loma Linda University School of Medicine and began his career as a general practitioner and surgeon in 1951 in the south end of St. Joseph retiring in 1998. Sharon was a member of Seventh-day Adventist Church where he served as an Elder, Southside Rotary Club, Friday Morning Breakfast Club, Buchanan County Medical Association, Buchanan County Health Department as a Health Officer, Ensworth Society, American Medical Association, American Academy of General Practitioners, Missouri State Medical Association and various boards between Methodist Medical Center, Sisters Hospital and Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Norma Wright. Survivors: his wife, Marion Waggoner; daughter, Marcella E. Hassen (Harlan L., DDS), Liberty, Missouri; son, John Kenneth Waggoner (Laura), Kansas City, Missouri; grandchildren, Laura Elizabeth and Katherine Lynette Hassen, and Christina Marie Waggoner; and brother, Lee Waggoner (Gladys), Duluth, Minnesota. Memorial Service: 1:00 P.M. Wednesday, Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory. Inurnment Memorial Park Cemetery. The family will receive friends 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. Mel Clark, 92, of St. Joseph, passed away on Friday, March 15, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. Mel was born in Washington Township, Missouri, in 1920, the son of Roy W. and Goldia Clark who preceded him in death as did his brother, Wilbur, and son-in-law, John Miller. He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Margaret Elizabeth “Betty”, daughters, Karen Clark, Maureen Miller and son, Dennis, four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Mel attended State Teacher’s College in Maryville, the University of Missouri, Columbia, Primary Service School in Chicago and Radio Materiel School at Treasure Island, California. He served in the Navy during World War II in both the Pacific and Atlantic. Mel worked as a radio engineer at KDRO, KMA and KFEQ. He was the engineering supervisor at KQTV retiring as chief engineer. In addition, Mel served as the director of the local CBN 700 Club Center and was active in the FGBMFI. He also served in many capacities in his church. He was interested in carpentry, building his own home. “Serve the Lord with gladness: come before his presence with singing.” Psalm 100:2 Mel has been cremated under the direction of Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory; a memorial service is pending. Mary F. Milbourn

1944-2013

Mary F. Milbourn, 69, Maricopa, Arizona, died Sunday, March 10, 2013 at her home. She was born February 4, 1944 to Earnest and Zola Felts in Batesville, Arkansas. Mary married Robert Milbourn on September 22, 1975. He survives of the home. She was a very caring person, was an animal lover, and especially loved her dogs. She was preceded in death by her parents. Survivors: husband; sons, Robert D. Milbourn (Peggy), Donnie C. Milbourn (Staci), and Clinton D. Milbourn; daughter, Susan Ruth Tune (David); ten grandchildren; and one great-grandchild. Private services have already been held at Meierhoffer Funeral Home & Crematory.
