Gerald Ellis, 86, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. He was born August 22, 1926 to Lester and Ermal Ellis in Weatherby, Missouri. Gerald married Velma May Tilman on April 3, 1949. She survives of the home. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Navy. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Glenn and Harold Ellis; infant twin brothers; and sisters, Hazel Sharp and Ethel Cannon. Survivors: wife; daughters, Linda Wagers (Richard), Sue Dornhoffer (Dennis), Sandy Schweder (Mike), and Debbie Gentry (Pat), all of St. Joseph, Missouri; son, Michael Ellis (Pat), Jacksonville, Florida; brothers, Vernie and Alvin Ellis (Vivian); nine grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. Alex M. Perez, 59, Springdale, Arkansas, died Thursday, March 28, 2013, at St. Luke’s Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. He was born July 13, 1953, to Alexander Jr. and Virginia Perez in St. Joseph, Missouri. Mr. Perez married Shelly Hicklin on February 22, 1986. She survives of the home. Alex had a career in law enforcement and corrections, including the St. Joseph Police Department. After his retirement, he worked in sales. He attended Trinity United Methodist Church of Fayetteville, Arkansas, was a former member of the St. Joseph Fraternal Order of Police and the Missouri State Police Chief Association, a former volunteer for Cole County Sheriff’s Department, and a member of the National Rifle Association. Alex was a published author, having written two novels, and was passionate about music, especially blue grass and country, and wrote many songs. He was preceded in death by his parents. Survivors: wife; daughters, Lindsay Katherine Perez, Kansas City, Kansas, and Hillary Robin Perez, of the home; granddaughter, Willow Alexandria Perez, of the home; sisters, Vickie McManus (Bill), Debbie Allison (Ron), and Joni Berry (Joshua); and numerous nieces and nephews. John “J.C.” Strobel, 90, Mound City, Missouri died Friday, March 29, 2013 at a healthcare facility in Oregon, Missouri. He was born December 20, 1922 to George and Grace Strobel in Mound City, Missouri. J.C. married Bette M. (Allen) Strobel on August 22, 1943. She survives of the home. J.C. farmed most of his life in the Mound City area and was a rural letter carrier for the United States Postal Service. He was a veteran of World War II and served in the United States Army. J.C. was also a member of Mound City United Methodist Church, Mound City, Missouri, a lifetime member of the American Legion Post #121, and fifty plus years in the Mound City and Oregon Masonic Lodge as a 32nd degree Mason. He was preceded in death by his parents; and a brother-in-law, Bill Wright. Survivors: wife; sister, Lucille Wright Scheuffele, Chico, California; two nieces; one nephew; and dear friends, Duane A and Linda Nauman and family. Services: 2:00 P.M. Michael Vincent Drake, 62, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, March 29, 2013 at his home with his loving daughter and wife by his side. He was born December 29, 1950 in Price, Utah. Michael married Dena (Berthena) McCoy on November 13, 1999. She survives of the home with their daughter, Anna Elizabeth Drake. Mr. Drake served in the United States Army during Vietnam. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, where he was active in the food pantry, CCD and many other parish activities. He was a member of Knights of Columbus, Council #571 and a Fourth Degree Member of Knights of Columbus, Assembly #569, where he served on the honor guard. Mr. Drake was member of the former Cpl. Fred Seiffert, Post #1668, Veterans of Foreign Wars, where he served in many offices including Commander and was the Captain of the ritual team. He worked with the Marine Corps League’s Toys For Tots program, assisted in distributing flags at cemeteries for Memorial day and was a member of M.O.C. Michael was preceded in death by his parents, D. Vincent and Velma (Dean) Drake; and a brother, Owen Drake. Mass of Christian Burial 10:00 A.M. Tuesday, St. Mary Catholic Church. Thelma V. McDaniel, 85, St. Joseph, Missouri died Friday, March 29, 2013 at Heartland Regional Medical Center. She was born October 12, 1927 to Wilbur and Ilene Sharp in Chariton County, Missouri. She married Robert L. McDaniel on June 2, 1947. He preceded her in death. Thelma was preceded in death by her husband; parents; and brother, Bud Sharp. Survivors: sons, Ron McDaniel, Sheridan, Missouri, Jim McDaniel, St. Joseph, Missouri, and Bill McDaniel, St. Joseph, Missouri; six grandchildren, John McDaniel, Stacey Bell (Cordell), Michelle Mattson (James), Bryan McDaniel, Whitney Russell (Jason), and Kevin McDaniel (Lisa); thirteen great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sisters, Dixie Sill, and Marjorie Paradise; and aunt, Laverne Steele. Sherry Gaye Wray, 51 of Maryville, Missouri died on Friday, March 29, 2013,
at Heartland Regional Medical Center in Saint Joseph, Missouri.
Sherry was born January 17, 1962 in Maryville, Missouri, the daughter of
Dick and Jewell (VanSyoc) Jones.
She was a 1980 graduate of Maryville High School and recieved her BS in
Theraputic Recreation from Northwest Missouri State University in 2012.
Sherry had worked as a cashier for 20 years at Gray’s Truck Stop, Maryville.
Preceding her in death was her mother Jewell Ruth Jones (2/8/2009),
grandparents Ralph and Gladys Jones, L.V. and Mary VanSyoc, and two cousins
Dennis Jones and Jeanne Jenkins.
Surviving are son, Alex Mitchell (Samantha) Wray, Maryville, brother,
Jeffrey Duane (Tammy) Jones, Conception, Missouri, sister, Brenda Sue
(Randy Havens) Oppie, La Monte, Missouri, father Dick Jones, Maryville,
several nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and cousins.
A Funeral service will be at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, April 2, at the First
United Methodist Church, Maryville. Interment will be in Nodaway Memorial
Gardens, Maryville, MO.
The family will receive friends from 5-7 PM on Monday, April 1, 2013, at
Price Funeral Home, Maryville, Missouri.
