Arkansas oil spillThousands of barrels of heavy Canadian crude spewed from a ruptured pipeline into an Arkansas residential neighborhood.

The Exxon pipeline runs from Patoka, Illinois to Nederland, Texas.

Opponents of the Keystone Pipeline expansion latched on to the incident to attack the proposal.

Exxon’s Pegasus pipeline, which can carry more than 90,000 barrels per day, was shut after the leak was discovered late Friday afternoon.

The leak happened in a subdivision near the town of Mayflower, Arkansas.

Exxon said its crews recovered about 12,000 barrels of oil Saturday. Twenty-two homes were evacuated in the area northwest of Little Rock.
