A 21-year-old St Joseph woman was sentenced to six years in prison for the death of her four-year-old daughter, but the judge will retain jurisdiction for possible probation after 120 days of shock time.

Alexandra Schurr pleaded guilty February 20 to one count of involuntary manslaughter in the first degree. St Joseph police say Ms Schurr left the disabled child at home alone all day last October 10.

The child, Amber Mosier, suffered from cerebral palsey and was attached to a feeding machine. An autopsy report showed the child died as a result of airway obstruction caused by gastrically delivered feeding material.

Buchanan County Circuit Judge Daniel Kellogg on Tuesday sentenced Schurr to six years in the Missouri Department of Corrections. In four months time Judge Kellogg will consider the possibility of probation.
