Sixteen runs on 15 hits led to the Northwest Missouri State baseball team taking game one of the three game series from Southwest Baptist 16-3 on Friday.
Northwest did not waste anytime scoring as they plated a run in the top of the first when Brandon Huske stole home to put his team up 1-0.
SBU scored two in the bottom half of the inning to go up 2-1. The Bearcats tied it up in the second inning off the bat of Eric Swain who doubled down the right field line scoring Cam Bedard from second.
The game remained knotted up at 2-2 until the sixth inning when the Bearcats offense began to open up. Swain hit his second double of the game collecting two more RBIs scoring Bedard and Eric McGlauflin to go up 4-2.
Northwest added 12 more runs in the game, eight in the seventh inning and four in the eighth inning to take control of the game. SBU added one in the bottom half of the seventh inning, but that would be it as the Bearcats took game one of the series 16-3.
Brandon Huske and Eric Swain combined to go 8 for 10 in the game with 11 RBIs, four extra base hits and five runs scored. Huske hit his third home run of the year, a grand slam, in the seventh inning. The home run was Huske’s second hit in the inning.
Ryker Fox picked up his third win of the season going 7.0 strong innings giving up four hits, three runs and racking up three strike outs.
Northwest improves to 11-22, 9-19 on the season. The Bearcats will take on SBU in a double-header tomorrow with game one slated to start at 1 p.m. The first game will be a seven inning affair followed by game two which will be nine innings.
