Bearcat Track & Field Open has been canceled

riggertNorthwestThe Bearcat Open for the Northwest Missouri State track and field team has been canceled as the Bearcats will send split squads to several meets across Missouri and Kansas.

After hosting the Northwest Open Saturday, the Bearcat track and field teams will travel Thursday and Friday to a multi-event at the Emporia State Combined Events. Friday and Saturday the Bearcats will also send split teams to the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita and to the William Jewell Darrel Gourley Open.

This past weekend Zac Bendrick met the NCAA qualifying mark for the hammer throw with a distance of 48.18m. Bendrick finished first in the Northwest Open followed by teammate John Petroff who threw for a distance of 44.61m. Petroff also took first place in the discus throw with a toss of 50.93m which meets the NCAA qualifying mark.

The wind was an ever present factor blowing throughout the day at the Northwest Open affecting some of the runners times. Anne Herbet knows this better than anyone else as she missed the NCAA qualifying time by two tenths of a second in the 3000m steeplechase finishing with a time of 11:22.31. Herbet finished first in the event.

The Bearcats will compete in relays and invitationals as they work their way to the MIAA Outdoor Championships in Hays, Kan. May 3-5.
