Firefighters and St Joseph police ask that you avoid the area of 1101 N 3rd St. in St Joseph. A house fire was reported at 12:50 p.m. Thursday.
That fire was brought under control at about 1:45 p.m.
Battalion Chief Paris Jenkins of the St Joseph Fire Department says the fire started in the basement and traveled up the walls of the aging structure.
The fire caused damage to the floors in the house, so fire crews took a defensive posture to prevent the fire from spreading to neighboring houses.
Jenkins says the house has been vacant for a number of years. There were no injuries reported.
