Communications Center Staff Giving Back

SJPD badgeThe week of April 14-20, 2013, has been set aside as National Telecommunicator Week. Each year emergency services providers take the time to recognize the contributions of these dedicated individuals.

In the past, the City of St. Joseph and Buchanan County have acknowledged the service and commitment of the Communications Center staff during the week. This year the Communication Center staff is giving back by acknowledging another service provider.

During the week the staff will be soliciting for donations for the YWCA Women’s Shelter. The shelter, located at 304 N. 8th, is a safe haven for women and their children who are displaced from their homes due to violence. The shelter provides a unique and necessary service to our community.

The Communications Center staff is asking for your assistance with this cause. The shelter is in need of clothing items, especially undergarments, for women and children. Hygiene products, grooming items, cosmetics, and toys are also needed.

In 2012, the Communications Center answered more than 215,000 telephone calls. If you were on the other end of the line, or if you or a loved one has utilized the YWCA Women’s Shelter, the staff of the Communications Center encourages you to make a donation to the shelter.
