The Missouri Department of Conservation says an Oklahoma man has set a state fish record.
Chris Kimble caught a longnose gar weighing 35 pounds, 9 ounces at Bull Shoals Lake. The fish surpassed the previous state record of 34 pounds, 7 ounces.
Kimble took the gar while bow-fishing earlier in the month.
It was just recently certified by the Conservation Department.
The longnose gar is a cylindrical fish with a long and narrow snout, usually measuring 24 to 36 inches long and weighing only around 6 pounds. The fish typically inhabits stream backwaters and deep, open-water areas of lakes.
