A 15-year-old girl is dead after a broadside collision at a highway crossing in Leavenworth County, Kansas Tuesday morning.

The Kansas Highway Patrol says Tristan Hayes, 16, failed to yield the right of way at US-24 and 166th Street and was hit by a tractor trailer on the highway.

Killed was passenger Shealyn Hayes, of Tonganoxie. The driver was transported to the KU Medical Center with what were described as disabling injuries.
