Bearcats’ softball season ends with loss to Northeastern State

Northwest2013riggertThe season ended Saturday for the Northwest Missouri State softball team who suffered their second loss in the MIAA conference tournament losing to Northeastern State 9-2.

Northwest was able to score first going up 1-0 in the third inning when Hailee Hendricks was hit by a pitch with bases loaded.

The RiverHawks plated four runs in the top of the fourth inning to take a 4-1 lead.

Kylie Cantrell came up in the bottom of the fourth inning and hit her, team leading, eighth home run of the season to bring her team within two, down 4-2.

Northeastern added five more runs in the fifth inning to take a 9-2 lead and the Bearcats were unable to recover.

Jenna Creger received the loss in the 9-2 defeat as she went 4.0 innings giving up four earned runs and striking out five. Abbie Vitosh went the final 3.0 innings to finish the game.

Eight Bearcat seniors played their final game for Northwest as they finish their season with a 27-19, 15-15 record in 2013.
