Second Harvest Community Food Bank and the National Association of Letter Carriers is preparing for the Annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive.
“Stamp Out Hunger allows our local letter carriers to be part of the solution to hunger,” said Aaron Smullin, public relations specialist at Second Harvest.
“Our letter carriers are a mighty force, and when they come together during this food drive, it sends a clear message that hunger is unacceptable.”
This year, residents will receive postcards telling them about the drive. It’s easy to participate; all you have to do is leave a bag of non-perishable food items by your mailbox. Your letter carrier will pick it up and make sure it’s delivered to Second Harvest or a local Partner Agency.
Stamp Out Hunger is the largest, single-day food drive in the United States. Last year, nearly 70 million pounds of food was collected by generous Americans. That marked the ninth consecutive year that at least 70 million pounds of food was collected by the letter carriers. In our region, over 44,000 pounds of food was collected last year.
